Legacy and Wills

The Shakespeare Hospice is here for our community

Our Hospice is not just about end of life care. We provide support and compassion to our patients and their families throughout their journey from diagnosis through to treatment, and survivorship.

Our work helps people enjoy their lives to the full, receiving the physical, emotional and spiritual support that they need.

Any gift, regardless of size, makes a huge difference to the care that our patients, carers and their families receive.

Your gift can make a real difference

Writing your Will is beneficial at any stage of life. If you get married, buy a property or have a family, these changes will directly affect your estate.

By leaving a gift in your Will, your support will create a lasting legacy, helping The Shakespeare Hospice to continue to provide the very best of care and support to those in need in your local community today and in the future.

Of course, we hope that it will be many years before The Shakespeare Hospice benefits from your generosity, but when the time comes please be assured The Shakespeare Hospice will put your gift to good use.

Here’s how your legacy gift could make a real difference...

How to leave a gift to The Shakespeare Hospice

You can make a gift to The Shakespeare Hospice in the following ways:

  • A residuary gift, which is the remainder of your estate after all other gifts and debts have been settled. That benefits both your family and friends and your charitable beneficiaries.

  • A pecuniary gift, which is a cash lump sum. Your solicitor can index-link a cash gift to ensure the relative value stays the same over time.

  • A specific gift, such as personal possessions which could include jewellery or furniture. Buildings, property and land can also be gifted along with shares or bank account contents.

You can make a gift to more than one charity and it’s a very cost-effective way to give as charities are exempt from inheritance tax.  Some people avoid paying inheritance tax altogether by leaving a  donation for everything over and above the inheritance tax threshold. A solicitor can help advise you further on this.

You can make a Will or update an existing Will, with one of our local partner solicitors. We also have an online Free Will Service that allows you to make a will using an easy 3 step process. The free Wills are paid for by The Shakespeare Hospice but you are under no obligation to leave a gift to the Hospice to take advantage of the service. Find out more here.

We advise anyone making or updating a Will to seek independent advice from a practicing solicitor or other legally qualified Will writer.
