Covid-19 - Clinical Services Operational Update 26/03/2020

At the Shakespeare Hospice we are striving to ensure that we maintain our quality services as best that we can, to all those who are in need in South Warwickshire.

Our teams are working closely with our respective partners, including SWFT, Warwick Hospital, Community Hospitals, Myton Hospices, Mary Anne Evans Hospice, Shipston Home Nursing, care homes and local care providers.

We are pleased to report that we are currently providing the following services:

  • Hospice at Home – fully operational and providing a complete service.

  • Children’s Pre and Post Bereavement Support – where suitable on a 1:1 basis via telephone/virtual support mechanisms.

  • Adult Counselling Support – where suitable via telephone/virtual support mechanisms.

  • Day Hospice (patients, carers and bereaved) – whilst we have had to cease our onsite service, we continue to provide regular telephone support.  This may be on a weekly basis, or more often if required, to all of our patients.

  • Transitional Care – whilst we have had to cease our onsite service we have moved to regular telephone support, where families may find this beneficial.

Given the current situation we have sadly had to make the decision to temporarily cease the following services:

  • Young carers support groups

We are continuing to take referrals for all of our services and will triage and implement a support plan (in accordance with the above operational delivery models) until such a time that we can resume full normal activity. 

Should you wish to make a referral we have now introduced a Single Point of Access telephone line, to support a faster referral for professionals, as we acknowledge the potential time pressures that many are faced with.  Please call 01798 333139.  There is a facility to leave a voicemail with your contact details and we will get back to you at the earliest possibility.  The line is manned from 9am to 5pm Mon to Fri and messages will be picked up until 10pm 7 days a week.  Any message left after 10pm will be actioned the next working day.

We are continuously reviewing our provision, ensuring that the welfare of our service users, staff and volunteers is of the highest priority. 

We look forward to resuming all normal services in the near future.


How to Refer

The Shakespeare Hospice welcomes referrals from Health and Social Care Professionals across South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds.

If you would like to discuss whether or not a referral would benefit someone in your care please do not hesitate to call us on 01789 266852.


If a patient, carer, or family member would like to self-refer, or refer a loved one, this may be done by contacting the Hospice on 01789 266852. If we feel we can help the person we will obtain their permission to contact their GP, District Nurse, or Consultant, as appropriate.

Family Support

Our Family Support Services include Children and Family Support Service, Bereavement Support, Counselling, Chaplaincy and Social Work Service.
