Fundraisers lose pounds for Hospice funds

A group of 13 fundraisers have lost 63.6kg in weight over the past 12 weeks while raising nearly £6,000 for The Shakespeare Hospice as part of the Slim Gym Challenge.

The Slim Gym-ers received 12 weeks free gym membership at one of Meon Vale Leisure Centre, Billesley Manor Spa, Vital Health & Wellbeing MacDonald Alveston Manor or Walton Health & Leisure Club, taking advantage of the facilities and support from trainers.

Erica, one participant, told us the best part was “making new friends and feeling healthier” while Marion found it beneficial “keeping focussed and being part of an enthusiastic group”.

A winner from each gym won a year’s free membership. Barbara Craig was also the overall winner losing 10.3kg, 12.6% of her body weight. Along with her year’s membership at Meon Vale Leisure Centre she has won a hair and makeover followed by a photoshoot, for which she has chosen to select outfits from the Hospice shops.

The biggest fundraiser was Suzanne Edkins, who raised nearly £1,500 from her Vintage Evening, St Patrick’s Lunch and other activities.

Well done to everyone who took part in the challenge, they all put in lots of commitment and determination and did really well. A big thank you to all the gyms who volunteered their time and resources, their support was invaluable to us.
