The Shakespeare Hospice in Kenilworth

Since July 2013 we have been providing a supportive and palliative care service to the people of Kenilworth, in particular the Hospice at Home service which offers care and support to patients who wish to spend their last few weeks or days in their own home. In December 2014 alone, three patients in Kenilworth were able to stay in their own homes with their families without any distressing hospital admissions. This would not have been possible without the specialist nursing care of the Hospice team.

We need to raise £1.8 million per year to fund the services provided free for patients and families who need our support, and we are pleased to announce that in April 2015 we are opening a furniture store in Kenilworth which will enable us to provide these valuable services in the future for Kenilworth residents.

The new furniture shop will bring many benefits to the local area including;

- Employment opportunities (click here to see our current vacancies)

- Volunteering opportunities for those seeking to make a difference or gain experience to add to their CV

- Work experience for young people or those looking to learn a new skill to upcycle and refurbish items in the workshop area

- A free collection service for items of furniture, minimising potential waste and landfill.

The ‘Hospice at Home’ service is just one of many that will be supported by our new furniture store as we also work with schools in Kenilworth through the Young People’s Services, providing training for teachers to help support children facing or coping with bereavement. Kenilworth residents can also access any of our other services including Day Hospice which provides care for patients as well as bereavement support for those who have lost a loved one.

A bereaved carer from Kenilworth said

“I can not praise the support and help my family have had from Shakespeare Hospice enough. Without the Hospice at Home nurses my husband would not have been able to spend the last weeks of his life at home… Since my husband passed away the support from the Hospice has continued. I now attend the Hospice Day Centre where I have been offered complementary therapy and bereavement support. These days have been a great help to me as I'm able to express my feelings with people who listen and give the advice and support that I need.

“Everyone I have met through the Shakespeare Hospice has been so kind and thoughtful and I shall be ever grateful for this service.”

Adrienne Rostron, Head of Retail, said “We are looking forward to coming to Kenilworth and being part of the local community, working with and supporting local organisations and activities. We are committed to working with local Housing Associations and charities to support people in need.”
