THE SHAKESPEARE HOSPICE CELEBRATES ITS YOUNG VOLUNTEERS

The Shakespeare Hospice was honoured to have Warwickshire’s Lord Lieutenant Tim Cox in attendance at its annual Student Volunteer Celebration Evening on 16 July. The evening was a chance to commend the hard work done by its younger volunteers and Student Ambassadors.

Mr Cox, who was accompanied by the Lord Leitenant’s Cadets, heard several students speak about their experiences of volunteering at the Hospice, before handing out certificates to acknowledge those who have gone that extra mile or who have volunteered for over a year.

In the past 12 months over 80 young people from the Stratford upon Avon District have given up their free time to volunteer in a number of roles at the Hospice. Some volunteer in Hospice retail outlets, whereas others have worked alongside staff in supporting young carers or bereaved children.

Angie Arnold, Chief Executive at The Shakespeare Hospice said “We continually strive to communicate to the community that the Hospice is not a scary place. Having young people involved with our services helps to spread the word about the care we provide and dispel some of the myths surrounding hospices.”

Mr Cox thanked the students on behalf of her majesty the Queen for supporting their local charity, acknowledging the mutual benefits of volunteering to both the students and the community.
