The Shakespeare Hospice Summer Fete

Wednesday 18 July 2018

The Shakespeare Hospice Summer Fete was opened by the Mayor of Stratford Cllr John Bicknell, with the Chair of The Shakespeare Hospice Miranda Ramphul McCormick.

The Saturday of the fete followed a week of sporting disappointment in the World Cup and it was another blazing hot day in Stratford, but this did not discourage many families as well as patients who came along and enjoyed a quintessential Summer fete, held in the grounds and gardens at the hospice.

NFU Mutual kindly donated a marquee tent in which visitors browsed an abundance of gift and toy stalls.   Stratford Rotary Club were kept busy selling tickets for the upcoming Shakespeare Duck Race to raise funds for the Shakespeare Hospice's Children and Young People's Service which supports children and young people facing bereavement or coping with life as a young carer.

There were crowd-pleasing performances which included Stratford’s very own King Edward Vl’s School Music Department group Jazzsquad.

There was a Treasure Hunt for families to enjoy in the Day Hospice garden, complimentary therapies were available from the Day Hospice team and there were pony rides around the Hospice. A Punch and Judy show put on by hospice volunteer Mel Harvey ran throughout the afternoon, which kept everyone entertained.

More than £3,000 was raised which will help The Shakespeare Hospice continue to provide vital care to patients who have been diagnosed with a life limiting illness, as well as those who matter to them.

The Shakespeare Hospice’s Head of Income Generation, Karen Davies said,

“We are so grateful for all the support of our volunteers and fundraisers who put in so much hard work to the Summer Fete.

It was a fantastic opportunity to talk to families and patients about the hospice services and I want to thank all the volunteers who continue to support us and help put on these events.”
