Mike, a supporter of the Hospice and a Hospice at Home patient, shared his story:
“I’m blessed with the ability to end my days at home. I’ve got a beautiful view of my garden, my pride. And I’m at home, I’m surrounded by family, I’ve got friends coming in to see me. You might think this is weird but it’s almost like I’m on holiday. I couldn’t be happier at the moment. And the people who are giving me that happiness are The Shakespeare Hospice.
They have a fantastic scheme, it’s called Hospice at Home. It allows people to die at home. They provide all the facilities, the bed that I’ve got which you’ve heard whirring away, all the specialist equipment, specialist pillows.
This morning I had a therapist come in to give me some holistic treatment. I’ve never had Reiki before and he did Reiki on me which has made me feel great. So I was a sceptic and I’m a convert now. I have nursing staff come and look after me and they’ll be with me to the end. All the drugs, everything, it’s all here.
And more importantly, they take care of Barbara. There are facilities for her, there’s counselling. She spent Monday over at the Hospice having aromatherapy, chats to people, and sharing with other people who are going through it. It’s a fabulous service and it’s total charity. If they don’t make the money they can’t provide this service.
I wanted to give something back to them so I’ve created a page – it’s www.justgiving.com/mikeseddon. If you can, please go and donate, even if it’s a pound or a dollar or a euro, whatever you can.”
